INTRODUCTION

At the request of many of those I have shared spiritual insights to over the years, I decided to put this book together that deals with our learning to hear God’s voice and how to overcome our fears of doing this.  I decided to call it, “The Devil’s Scarecrow,” which came to me by way of a quote I heard years ago which went as follows:
“Don’t let the devil’s scarecrow keep you out of God’s corn field.”
I have observed in the course of sharing this truth that there are those who dislike anyone who lays claim to hearing God’s voice.  I understand this, and know why this is felt having experienced it myself.  We have heard of those who have claimed to hear God’s voice and have lead many astray, to the point we no longer desire to hear from God.  If this isn’t, in itself, a trick of the devil to cut us off from God nothing else is.  If it is possible, this matter of hearing God’s voice, and a needed thing in our growth, evil has accomplished what it wanted in using good, sometimes well meaning individuals, to keep us from ever hearing what it is that God, through the Holy Spirit, desired for us to know daily, Living Words; living words that only can give what has been called the dead letter, life.

Usually the error in this matter of hearing God speak to us comes via what is called prophecy, especially in areas of end time predictions etc.  This area is one of the main reason people have been turned off.  So, I will not at this point address this abuse but will focus on “personal direction” from our hearing His voice.  I have come to experience that this is where we each have to begin.  Beginning in this manner will keep you from falling into the many errors we all have seen and experienced with what I have said of following individuals that are being lead astray.   This matter of hearing from God is a personal encounter with the living God which is confirmed as one needs confirmation unprompted of human efforts.
Later, in the unfolding chapters of this book, I will share, via some experiences I have had with hearing God’s personal direction in my life, in hope that it will clarify what I mean by “hearing from God.” For now, let me continued with some examples we all know from Scriptures.

Let me now show you how those who were able to hear from God, did at times make mistakes or were uncertain of what they had heard and questioned it, desiring confirmation.  I’ll start with the book of Acts 16:6.  Here we see Paul the Apostle being forbidden to preach at that time in Asia.  In Acts 16:7 Paul continues on as if not knowing where the Spirit desired him to preach.  He goes to Mysia then wanted to go to Bithynia… still finding the Spirit forbidden him to do so.   He ends up in Troas and a vision appears to him.  In Acts 16:9 it says that in his vision he sees a man from Macedonia saying “Come over to Macedonia.”  He ends up in the chief city of Macedonia meeting Lydia, “whose heart God had opened.”  She and her house hold receive the Lord through Paul’s words, words the Lord had given to him to share.

Now notice this, the IMMITATOR of hearing the VOICE of the Spirit, another evil spirit is there to counteract what God desires.  Something we have all encountered and what I call the devil’s scarecrow in God’s corn field.  This spirit attempts to mimic the Holy Spirit…hear it…Acts 16:17 “the same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, “these men are the servants of the most high God, which show unto us the way of salvation.”

You wonder, “What’s wrong with what she said?”  Nothing wrong with what she said, only the channel that she received it.  You hear it today, those in this so-called New Age saying some beautiful things.  It’s not the sayings but the source and the intent behind that source; the intent being possession requiring exorcism as Paul performed that day.

It is June 21, 2009, and I have to deal with such a thing happening right now to a dear couple whose son has gotten into what is expressed in this text in Acts.  This is still going on, individual listening to the wrong VOICE.  Yet, without the assistance of the Voice of God today, I would stand helpless in assisting them as I hope to do.  I was warned of their situation weeks before they brought it to my attention, thus the Holy Spirit prepared me, and now I to them, to set their son free.

Notice, this woman in the book of Acts, who was possessed of this false spirit, kept doing this for days.  Paul, being grieved, turns and says to the spirit, “I command you in the NAME OF JESUS CHRIST to come out of her.”  Well, the spirit is cast out which didn’t make those happy who were dependent upon this woman’s spirit for gain in the market, causing Paul and Silas problems.

That’s one situation, now let me share another I am sure we have all heard concerning John the Baptist doubting.  John is in prison, and he is shaken by the whole ordeal, and doubts creep into his mind.  You read it in Matt. 11:3  “And said unto him (Jesus), are you He that should come, or do we look for another?” One wonders, had could John not have known; why would he doubt it?  You don’t need to go far to understand John’s doubts, just go and look in the mirror.  We all have had these doubts.  We have read the word of God and still doubt it at times wondering if it’s really true.  I know, speaking for myself, apart from God’s confirming to me the truth of His word as He did that day to John with the reply from Jesus to John’s disciples, Matt. 11:4,5,6,…I would be in confusion and toss to and fro by every wind of doctrine that has come down the pike.  I wonder how some make it in this world today without this confirming voice; this day and its massive flood of information that can over whelm us all, ending as Pilate so well expressed, “What is truth?”

This is my introduction and I feel is vital to our staying in touch with God; a God who is there, and is not silent.  I understand your fears; fears I believe true Love will cast out.  Will we make mistakes, yes, we all will make mistakes; mistakes that are covered through what the Grace of God has established; a grace that can work even our mistakes to His Good.  The biggest mistake is to spend a life time not hearing one on One that which God would have said to us, simply because evil has placed a scarecrow in God’s corn field.

FOREWORD

BEYOND CONFUSION…Jumbled message

Things have been intentionally jumbled so that any guessing on our part will be off; thus we would be put into a position where if we don’t acquire the ability to hear His voice, we will not know.  By jumbled I am not implying “confusion.”  We know it is said that Satan is the author of confusion, so this matter of jumbling is not to confuse, but as it is written to “hide from the wise and the prudent.” What do I mean by hide?   I wouldn’t be suggesting something unknowable, but rather it would only mean that those that acquire and desire to hear will hear.  This is not to suggesting a secret society or elite group of individuals; all are welcome to hear if they only desire to know.

Think of the many views of dates and conflicts of calendars, so much so that one cannot say that the dates we might want to set are 100% accurate.  How then can we know with some degree of certainty?   Again, I see this done with deliberate intention; not with ill intent, but to our well being. (Don’t let the left hand know what the right hand is doing).   Think of the time period we are living in, 2010, the general consensus is “what is truth?”  Who do you trust to give you the real scoop on matters?  We have had lies exposed, those whom we have trusted revealed to be untruthful.
Well, what about this claim of hearing from the Lord?  We have seen and heard of those who have made such a claim and were shown to not have heard from the Lord.  Believe it or not, this works to a good rather than an evil.  How so you might ask?  We have been warned, “Let every man be a liar, but God true.”   This “all” is just that, “ALL.”  This includes me and everyone reading this book.

Now you might be even more confused and ask, “Then who can be trusted in such a world?”  The answer has already been given, NO ONE, other than God Himself, and for this to happen you would have to acquire the ability to hear Him.  Is this possible?  If it isn’t, then you are as it says, “In the world without God and without hope.”

We are told we aren’t without hope, yet that hope is not in the seen but comes from that unseen.  As for confirmation that we are hearing from this unseen source, we are promised that it would be confirmed.  Of course we are instructed to “test” the spirits, from any unseen source, whether it is from God or not from Him.  I John 4:1, I Thess. 5:21, Gal. 6:4    We are told we do have a “more sure word that reveals how others before us received words from this unseen source and that we should pay attention to these words, “as a light that shines in this dark place, until the DAY DAWNS and the Day Star rises in our hearts; II Peter 1:19… heart implying something beyond the natural mind’s ability to know matters.  Until such a time that is designated of the Father, we are under tutors and guides as Paul states in Gal. 4:2.    Yet note this, a true tutor and guide would lead us to the only TRUE teacher and guide that Jesus Himself promised in John 16:13, John 23:9,10,11.  He, the Holy Spirit would teach, lead and guide us unto all truth.  Heb. 3:7, Heb. 3:15, Heb. 4:7, Rev. 3:20

In our opening chapter of this book the question, “Can we hear God’s voice today,” is addressed.  I believe that we can come to hear His voice.  So, adventure with me and do not allow the devil’s scarecrow to keep you out of God’s corn field.
